Bernie Sanders is continuing to make his case for the Democratic nomination for president despite the fact he has almost no chance to catch up to Hillary in the delegate race.
An interesting moment happened for Bernie on the campaign trail when he made a mistake that many people have made in the past but the media’s reaction, or lack of reaction, spoke volumes about the double standard that exists regarding treatment of Republicans and Democrats.
Here is the video of what went down at a recent Bernie town hall event.
Some will say that this is an honest mistake. Personally, I think it says a lot about Bernie that he automatically assumed this dark complexioned person was a Muslim without even asking. But I know I am looking at it through the prism of someone very aware of the institutional racism and prejudice that has existed in Democratic Party for over a century so that might be lost on some people.
Aside from that, can you imagine for one second what would have happened if one of the Republican candidates had referred to a Hindu as a Muslim in this format?
Especially Donald Trump. It would be on the front page of the New York Times.
The left would have a field day mocking a Republican for not knowing the difference between a Hindu and a Muslim and they would be labeled as bigoted and backwards by every possible outlet without mercy.
But when Bernie does it, nothing.
This is a double standard that people who follow the media have grown accustomed to but it is still worth pointing out.
