Yesterday, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) became the latest in a long line of Democrats to cry racism when they don’t get their way. Durbin is upset that Republicans will not hold a vote on Loretta Lynch’s confirmation as the new Attorney General until Democrats allow the passage of a bill that cracks down on human trafficking. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), whose recent gym accident helped him complete his transformation from ordinary citizen to Batman villain, has managed to railroad the entire process. The reason Democrats won’t allow that bill to pass is because Republicans added an amendment that prohibits tax payer dollars from funding abortions, which most Americans support.
Since human trafficking and confirming Loretta Lynch are far less important to Democrats than making sure abortion is completely unrestricted and easily accessible to everyone in America, Durbin and others have resorted to their favorite move, race-baiting. In the interest of full disclosure, Durbin is the same senator who once equated the American military to the Nazis so he isn’t exactly playing with a full deck to begin with, but his words are still just as outrageous.
During his time to speak on the Senate floor Wednesday, Durbin compared the delay to confirm Loretta Lynch, in favor of fighting against human trafficking and taxpayer abortions, with making Rosa Parks sit in the back of the bus 60 years ago. Seriously. One of the most prominent Senate Democrats has now compared American troops to Nazis and Republicans who don’t support Loretta Lynch with segregationists (who were all Democrats ironically).
Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has expressed his disappointment with Durbin’s remarks and has also called for an apology. Durbin did end up apologizing for his previously mentioned Nazi comment so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he apologizes here too. However, anyone who has been paying attention to liberal politicians over the past decade or so knows that they aren’t sorry for saying what they said, only that they got called out for saying it.
This is nothing new. Whenever Democrats are in trouble, they play the race card. This is a very effective tactic because it puts the burden on Republicans to prove something that was never true in the first place, isn’t true. It’s harder to prove you aren’t racist than it is to prove you are. Liberals have pounced on this strategy. Joe Biden told the public that Republicans wanted to put black people back in chains. Kay Hagan blamed her Republican opponent for the death of Trayvon Martin. Liberals have associated the Tea Party with the KKK (an organization created by Democrats). Liberal outlets are constantly telling us how racism is on the rise and it’s the GOP’s fault. The list goes on and on.
For those playing at home, here is an interesting side note to consider. Guess what Senator didn’t vote for Condoleezza Rice when she was facing the nomination process to become Secretary of State. You guessed it. Dick Durbin. I wonder how she felt about being asked to sit in the back of the bus?
The fact of the matter is that the Democratic party is bankrupt when it comes to new ideas to move the country forward. The recent midterm elections and the President’s approval rating show without a doubt that the tired tax and spend ways of the Left have grown stale. Knowing that, Democrats have resorted to some of the dirtiest tactics in politics to stay relevant. What rational person would think it’s acceptable to disrespect the accomplishments and struggle of Rosa Parks by using her as a pawn in a political game and equating her with a disagreement about policy in Congress? Perhaps someone who doesn’t really respect what she went through in the first place.
